Queenstown to Christchurch

Well, plenty of things happend in the past week, as I made my way around the South of New Zealand. After three magnificent days in Queenstown, which I spent hiking and walking around Queenstown and jumping of plattforms 60 meters above a canyon I payed tribute to Mildford Sound, a magificent Fjord and one of the major sights of New Zealand. Fortunatley it was one of the 60 days they get down there that did not include rain. I even got to see yellow eyed pengiuins, which are very rare.

The next day I went to Steward Island, the third and most souther Island of New Zealand, very remote, very quiet expect for the birds and one hell of a night in the local pub (I don't know if it is indeed the most southern pub, but it is very south...). Unfortunatley I did not get to see much of the island and spent less then 24 hours on the island itselt.

Duneden, a scotisch Settlement was my last stop before getting back to Christchurch along with a petriefied forrest and a few other sights I will mention later on.

Well, currently I am in Christchurch and I finally spent a day without doing nothing at all, just hanging around and realaxing. Tomorrow I will get on a plane and head back to Aukland.

All the best - Johannes

Franz Josef Glacier

Hello out there!

I just arrived in Franz Josefs a couple of hours ago. I think the last time I posted something was on the North Island in Taupo. Well, I moved on to Tongorrio National Park and Wellington, the first with horrible weather conditions and lots of snow, the second one with sunshine and a lovley day with a girl in the park. Very relaxing. Then I hoped on a ferry to the South Island and started my journey around the middle island with a wine tasting before I carried on to the lovley Able Tasman, where I went sailing and walking around lonesome beaches.
After that came a stop in Berry Town, a village out in the middle of nowhere, but a very active nightlife. Today I finally arrived in the capital of tourism of New Zealand, the Franz Josef Glacier, named after an Austrian king (Sweet As) Tomorrow I will climb up that glacier and then kerry (the name of my current Busdriver) on to Haste for a Bonfire on the Beach and BBQ!

Well, my next update should be published in Queenstown - hope you are all having a great time!

Aukland to Taupo

Hi folks!

The past few days on the Stray have been a real blast. The driver Kerry - or better known as Possum *not because he loves them so much* is really funny and Boozin 'n crusin is his true motto. So far I have seen tons of waterfalls and supermarkets, as well as some nice beaches, mud pools and dodge hostels. Yesterday I went for a really nice walk around the Shire (at least it looked like that) and got myself even more wet then those who whent tuping black water caving. Well, my contact lenses are killing me / so no more writting for today!

Aukland and Bay of Islands

Hey there! Just spent the past two days exploring Aukland and travelling up to Bay of Islands, a relaxed little beach village up north, about 3 hours drive. I booked myself on Stray, one of the backpacker busses. So far it seems like a good decision, I will travell all the way to Wellington with them, by then I will know how I"m going to travell around the southern island. Yesterday I went on a day-trip to Cape Reinga, the most norther point of New Zealand, quiet a nice spot, espacially the 90 mile beach, where we went sand surfing and driving along the beach, eatings shells and stuff... Sweet As - as the lokals like to say. Today I rented a bike and cycled around the Bay before I went on a ferry to Russel - the first european settlement and the place where mighty James Cook first set his foot on.

Well, more to come soon!

My first kiwi day

Ok, I made it through 30 hours on planes and airports, acutally, it was not to bad at all, since I had emergency exit seats on both long distant flights. Singapor airport was a nice stop over, I even managed to do a walking tour for free. Around 10 am in the morning on the 28th I arrived in Aukland. Cloudy weather, but not to cold at all. The bus ride (22 kiwi dollar) took me straight to the hostel and the first two nights where booked in no time. I spent the rest of the day exploring the neighbourhood and getting to know the city. At night I went to the hostel bar and spent the evening with Laura and Laureen, both from the mighty Sherwood Forrest aka Nottingham. Both girls joined a amateur table dance competition but the cheering of the support team was not enough and they where beaten by a local. Well, so much for my first day - just 26 left! I better start exploring and having fun!
